PLAY WITH REDUCED INJURY AND IMPROVED WELL-BEING
Earo sets a new standard in musician chairs. Its unique design promotes better open posture, greater flexibility and better breathing which optimizes the playing experience during long hours of rehearsal and performance.
The concept for earo is based on orchestral musicians’ needs and provides the most ideal conditions for excellent performance. Earo chair is simple and intuitive to adjust and it also recognises the specific requirements of cellists.
Innovative features such as a unique seat profile, simple height and tilt adjustments, a narrow backrest and footrests in the base, combine to provide an elegant and ergonomically refined orchestra chair.
Earo’s stackability allows for minimum intrusion and maximum flexibility in floor space usage on a busy stage. Conveniently placed handles allow for easy and comfortable manipulation of the chair. It is light enough to lift and carry in one hand.
Earo is an elegant, hand-finished chair that speaks volumes about how ergonomic design can make a real difference to musicians’ well-being. Earō’s design also recognises the logistical requirements of performance spaces and orchestra management. The folding seat provides for easy and compact nesting of the chairs and its aesthetical consideration results in a beautiful orchestra chair that will enhance any venue.

”Sitting on earo chairs is like sitting on cloud 9!!! The sitting feeling is better than standing, with an upright posture you can breathe wonderfully relaxed and play music in a flow! We are very happy with the earo chairs. We find it very comfortable, even for long rehearsals. It is very easy to adjust the height and tilt of the seat to suit individual needs. Thank you for this amazing innovation for orchestra musicians, Earo!”

DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT
Looking at the influence of physical stress on musicians Industrial Designer and Design Educator Dr Gearóid Ó Conchubhair began work on a musician chair as his PhD thesis at the National College of Art and Design, Dublin.
The RTE National Symphony Orchestra was central to the project in Ireland, giving access to rehearsals, performances and devoting time and detailed feedback during the testing of the many prototypes of the chair. This research along with data from 250 orchestras around the world led to earo’s unique design and its distinguishing advantage: promoting flexibility while also providing support so musicians are more at ease for longer.
“The challenge was to design an orchestra chair that would provide a tangible benefit to the well-being of the musician – and thereby enhance performance – and have to make a difference across the five main instrument groupings of the seated members of the orchestra – violin, viola, cello, wood wind, brass wind.”
Dr. Gearóid Ó Conchubhair, Industrial Designer and Design Educator.
